“What do you want to Milton to look like?”

This was the question posed to Milton residents at last week’s public meeting regarding the community survey that was handed out earlier in the year, and the answers were fairly consistent.

The Milton City Council meeting last Monday was a special event for those assembled and familiar with the past year.

Brought up during the first Milton City Council meeting at it’s new time, Mondays at 6 p.m., was an offer by Fulton County Libraries Board for a new library in Milton, free of charge. So what was the catch? It wants an offer of free land from  Milton on which to place the library.

For nearly twenty years, Milton has had one of the foremost trainers of service dogs in the country right under its proverbial nose.

Let’s wait.

That was the conclusion reached by the consulting company dealing with the Crabapple Crossroads Plan. Although the large audience listening to the presentation last week understood the reasons behind the recommendation, some were not happy about it.

The city of Milton has issued a temporary lifting of its city-wide outdoor burn ban that went into effect in October 2007. The lifting, issued by Milton Fire Marshall Chad McGiboney, is effective immediately, and allows residents to conduct outdoor burning under specific guidelines. The city's ban on outdoor watering is still in effect, and is not included in this temporary lifting.

The first Milton City Council meeting of 2008 began with a festive and happy tone, then the members got down to business.

It would surprise no one in Milton if the city’s new shopping center featuring a Kohl’s department store is built faster than it took the town to approve it.

Some roads are wide and some are narrow. Some roads are busy and some are quiet. In very rare instances, usually in rural areas, a road may be so underused that it doesn’t even qualify as a road.

The chili recipe that Chris Lagerbloom gave to one of the teams in last Saturday’s chili cookoff among Milton’s public safety teams didn’t win but that should do nothing to spoil the reputation of one of the city’s great cooks that you’ve never heard of.

In politics, incumbents traditionally have an advantage at election time. In Milton, that might not hold true.

One by one, a number of Milton citizens stepped up to the microphone at the City Council meeting last Thursday and offered some unsolicited testimonials.
 

When asked why he moved to the area 34 years ago from Pittsford, NY, near the south shore of Lake Ontario, William Lusk answered, “I got smart.” Actually, he came down to accept a job offer.
