North Fulton County resident and former FBI agent Ted Jackson stunned Fulton County incumbent Sheriff Myron E. Freeman and seven other Democratic challengers by grabbing 17 percent of the vote and gaining a spot in the August 5 run-off with Freeman.
A caucus of State Representatives and Senators from the 6th Congressional District convened recently to elect its newest member of the State Transportation Board of Directors. Brandon L. Beach of Alpharetta was elected to fill the vacated seat. His term begins immediately.
The Alpharetta City Council reached an agreement with Rural Metro ambulance service at last Monday’s weekly meeting. Rural Metro will provide an ambulance dispatcher to Alpharetta, which will free up a city employee. The agreement also includes Rural Metro coverage of the cities of Johns Creek and Milton from this position.
The Roswell Police Department wants to hear from residents on the services they provide by asking them to respond to a brief online survey. The survey is posted on the City's web site, www.roswellgov.com, and will provide important information that will assist in the department's re-accreditation process.
A story that began exactly one month ago today when Vasilios Andreou abruptly and unexpectedly resigned his post as Roswell’s Director of Transportation has taken on a new twist. On June 10, when the resignation was made public, it was announced that Andreou had resigned for “personal reasons.” However, the Beacon has obtained official city documentation that clearly states otherwise.

Housed in the scenic and solemn Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, the mobile Vietnam Wall was the center of numerous ceremonies over the weekend. The events held an elevated level of poignancy as they coincided with the July 4 weekend. It is fitting that a monument dedicated to those who gave their lives in an unpopular war was viewed on the holiday dedicated to the independence guaranteed by such sacrifices. 1,582 Georgians died in Vietnam.
Late last month, on a scorching hot Saturday morning, the local Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) chapter got together at the Roswell Presbyterian Church Cemetery to celebrate the arrival of a new monument.
