On October 11, a Roswell police officer patrolling the Kroger parking lot on Holcomb Bridge Road heard a loud squealing of car tires and then noticed a blue car driving out of the parking lot at a fast speed.
The blue car, being driven by David Crown, almost hit a pedestrian on the way out of the lot. As Crown’s car left the lot, the officer turned on his lights and went into full pursuit mode. The officer witnessed Crown take such a sharp turn onto Holcomb Bridge that his car almost did a 180. The officer was finally able to apprehend Crown on Calibre Creek Parkway.
Once Crown was detained, the officer talked to dispatch who informed him that Crown most likely sped out of the Kroger parking lot because he was trying to steal over $350 in groceries. Crown told the officer that he had to do it because he had lost his job and he had no food or money. Crown filled a shopping cart full of groceries while in Kroger, then he bolted out the front door with the cart full of unpaid groceries. The Kroger manager chased Crown, so Crown jumped into his car and left the stolen groceries behind. Crown apologized to the officer for stealing and almost hitting a pedestrian. He was charged with reckless driving, concealing the identity of a vehicle, being an unlicensed driver and theft by shoplifting.
Attack on Old Alabama
On October 10, an Atlanta resident became the unfortunate victim of a strong-arm robbery. While traveling south on Old Alabama road, a male jumped out in front of the victim’s car, causing the victim to slam his brakes. When the car came to a stop, the African American male threw a rock through the victim’s windshield, causing the glass to shatter. Another male then came out of nowhere and threw a rock toward the victim’s driver side window. Once again the glass shattered.
The victim then was pulled out of his car and thrown to the ground. While on the ground, the victim was kicked by a Hispanic woman while the two men “rummaged” through his car. The two men took $300 they found in the car and then the three suspects all fled.
The victim made it up the street to a Citgo gas station where he called police. The three suspects, described as two African American males and one Hispanic female, have not been apprehended yet.
Wild Ride
On October 8, an Alpharetta resident and her child were taken for a traumatic ride against their will. To celebrate his son’s birthday, the baby’s father and victim’s ex-boyfriend, Carlos Gomez, wanted to take the child to Chuck E. Cheese. When Gomez arrived to pick the child up, the victim put the young boy in the back of Gomez’s car while she went to her car to get the car seat.
While she was fetching the car seat, Gomez sped off with the child. According to the victim, Gomez returned 15 minutes later with the child. The victim then got into Gomez’s car to install the car seat, but while she was doing this, Gomez began to drive again, even though the door was open and nobody was secure.
The victim then claimed that Gomez took her and her child to a subdivision and made them get out of the car. At that point Gomez drove the car at them, narrowly missing them.
Gomez then made the pair get back in the car. The victim says that while in the car she had her hair and clothes pulled and that Gomez threatened to do something to her if she called the police.
Gomez told her all he wanted to do was take the child to Chuck E. Cheese. The victim was pushed out of the vehicle on North Point Parkway and forced to walk home while the baby was still in the car with Gomez.
Carlos Gomez has not yet been apprehended.
Roommates fight
On October 12, an officer saw a man, later identified as John Faucette, limping down Holcomb Bridge Road. The officer asked Faucette what had happened and Faucette explained that his roommate, Peter Byrd, becomes violent when he drinks.
Faucette said that while he was at his apartment, Byrd got extremely drunk and attacked him, telling him to “man up.” Faucette went on to state that he went into the fetal position and Byrd continued to kick him. According to Faucette, Byrd said that he was trying to help him out by beating him.
When the officer went to the duo’s apartment, he saw a disaster area. Burnt roaches were scattered, playing cards were all over the floor along with drinking glasses and plates and the mirrors in the bathroom were shattered.
When asked about the fight, Byrd did not deny any of the accusations. He said he just wanted Faucette to take a walk and go out for a bit. Byrd was arrested for battery.
Noncompliant daughter
On October 8, officers were dispatched to a residence on Chattahoochee Street in reference to a dispute. The officer was advised that one of the females involved in the dispute was tearing up the residence. The officers knocked on the door and got no answer. The officers then saw one of the women in the house, wearing no clothes and draped in a blanket.
The woman explained that her mother was not home and that no one needed any help. That’s when the mother pulled in. She saw the officers and explained to them that while she was sleeping, her daughter had begun to damage the property. The daughter threw a microwave out of the residence, scattered pots and coffee grounds on the kitchen floor and hung on the ceiling fan. The mother also stated that her daughter struck her on the mouth.
The officer then attempted to interview the daughter, but first, he asked that she put some clothes on. The daughter refused to comply with the officer’s request.
The mother finally got a shirt onto her daughter, but her lower area was still being covered by the blanket. The daughter refused to talk about the incident, and she began to yell and make abusive and threatening remarks.
The daughter was handcuffed while sitting on a couch. Obviously not pleased with her situation, the daughter defecated in the blanket she was wearing.
The daughter was arrested for simple battery.
