Roswell Police have arrested a suspect in a child molestation case that occurred on June 19.

Alfred Daniel Phelps, 20, of Jonesboro, was arrested for reportedly enticing two juveniles, ages eight and 10, to the basement of the Unitarian Universalist Church on Crabapple Road in Roswell. Phelps was a councilor at the WOHELO Summer Camp where the children were attending.

Phelps has been charged with child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes and sexual assault. The Unitarian Church has not been implicated.

Public Drink Brings Out the Worst in People
On July 29 near the corner of Alpharetta Highway and Windward Parkway, police noticed a man walking through the parking lot of Taco Mac and looking suspiciously at customers and into cars. Officers observed the man, identified as William Johnson of Milton, walk behind several other buildings along Windward Parkway before Johnson walked into the road, stopped, looked around and then noticed the patrol car watching him.

Williams turned and ran, going behind the Chili’s restaurant and attempted to climb a hill that was just a little too steep for him. He fell and rolled down the hill where police caught up to him.

Smelling strongly of alcohol, Johnson told police that he had been looking for his “friend in the woods” and would alternately shout and whisper while explaining himself. Apparently, Johnson was just released from prison and did not want to go back, which is why he ran from the police. “I’ve changed, I’ve changed,” he repeated.

Johnson was arrested for public intoxication. While in the back of the patrol car, he repeatedly yelled at the officer, saying “I’ll get you, you’re evil,” “go home to your ball dragging wife,” and “come on, I’ve changed.” Once in jail, Johnson apologized to the officer for his behavior.
