A caucus of State Representatives and Senators from the 6th Congressional District convened recently to elect its newest member of the State Transportation Board of Directors. Brandon L. Beach of Alpharetta was elected to fill the vacated seat. His term begins immediately.

Mr. Beach is President and CEO of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and has served on the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) Board of Directors since 2004 as an appointment of Governor Sonny Perdue. On GRTA, he served as Chairman of the Land Development Committee which oversees Developments of Regional Impact (DRIs).

“It is truly an honor to serve as the representative of the 6th District,” Beach said. “I look forward to working with my counterparts on a statewide level to develop a highly functioning Department of Transportation.”

The Georgia Department of Transportation is governed by the State Transportation Board. Its 13 members, representing each of the state’s Congressional Districts, exercise general control and supervision of the Department. Each member serves a five-year term and the terms are staggered. Board members are elected by the State Representatives and Senators whose districts fall within the Congressional District, whether it’s all of their district or just a portion.
