The third annual CABY awards were held last Thursday in the Roswell Cultural Arts Center with all the fanfare that a city-wide ceremony deserves. With world famous artists, such as renowned Jazz vocalist Francine Reed, and regional artists such as the Project 7 Dance Company performing for the enthusiastic crowd, the awards program was quite a success.
Standing for Cultural Arts Board –ee (like Grammy), the CABYs were hosted by WSB News Anchor John Pruitt and Cultural Arts Board Chair Sharon Moskowitz, and recognized those who have contributed to the arts in Roswell throughout the past year in seven categories.
“We thought it was a great fun idea and it blossomed into this fun event,” said Moskowitz. “Good crowd, lots of people, great nominees.”

The awards highlight not only those who have contributed to the arts, but also the arts themselves as an important aspect of the community and economy, as Moskowitz explained.
“We’re conducting an economic impact study. We’re seeing that the arts is an industry and not just a past time. There is close to 7.3 million that is spent in the local economy, so we know that it’s a very, very smart thing to promote the arts. You can’t have the business without the arts and you can’t have the arts without the business.”
