It’s that time again – disposal time for your Christmas trees and for over a decade Keep Georgia Beautiful has encouraged its residents to recycle their Christmas trees.
This year, Bring One for the Chipper will be on Saturday, January 5. The chippers will be at The Home Depot facilities across Atlanta, including those in North Fulton. The Chipper program has recycled 4.5 million trees so far.
To participate, residents are asked to arrive with the tree between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the 5th. Volunteers from the community will on hand to help you get the tree from the roof of your car or truck. Remember to take all the ornaments, tinsel and lights off the tree before you bring it to the store.
In return for a tree, you will get a seedling tree back to you while supplies last.
Additionally, Janet Liberman, Executive Director of Keep Roswell Beautiful, says “Roswell has so many trees that Davey Tree Company gives the mulch back.” To get the mulch, you need to fill out a form when you drop off the tree and arrange for delivery.
For those who want neat bags of mulch though, this is not the way to go. The mulch is delivered by the truckload, so perhaps a few neighbors want to get together to share a few yards of mulch.
For those of you who cannot make the trip to The Home Depot, your Christmas tree can be recycled at the curb. Just take all the baubles and lights off and it will be collected along with regular yard waste on your designated day.
