Some roads are wide and some are narrow. Some roads are busy and some are quiet. In very rare instances, usually in rural areas, a road may be so underused that it doesn’t even qualify as a road.
Meet Black Oak Road in Milton.
The overgrown and water-damaged dirt road is out of use and doesn’t really go anywhere. In fact, several city officials didn’t even know the road-to-nowhere existed.
Concerned that Black Oak Road could become a legal liability, the City Council agreed last week to temporarily close it off in response to a motion to officially abandon the 900-foot-long access road, off of Hopewell Road.
The council asked city safety inspectors to work on an abandonment report, which will show the extent of damage to the property. This is the second road abandonment brought before the City Council in Milton’s brief history.
Residents are invited to participate in a public hearing on the abandonment of Black Oak Road at the council’s December 13 meeting.
