It didn’t matter much when the Green team scored a late goal to beat the Whites Sept. 16 in the charity polo match at Chukkar Farm.

What mattered most was that the small crowd in attendance was there to help support Baby Memphis in his quest for a better life.

The polo match was a fundraiser for Memphis Lynn Lafferty, the nearly-two-year-old who developed bacterial meningitis and lost all his limbs at seven months. His father, Chris, is the head chef at Brookfield Country Club.

The North Fulton community has rallied around the family with fundraising initiatives.

Sept. 16 it was polo. Two teams of the Scuppernong Polo Club put on an exhibition match at Chukkar Farm. The Greens won, 18-17.

There was an appearance by Kyle Maynard, who was born with a rare disorder called “Congenital Amputation” that left him with three major joints, a neck and two shoulders. But he grew up to become a champion high school wrestler and competed for the University of Georgia.

Maynard, who has written a book, “No Excuses,” drove his car to the farm to show the Lafferty family what is possible.

And they all probably learned what has been widely speculated of the upscale horsey set: at Chukkar Farm, the horses have chandeliers in their stalls.
