Crime wave Hits Martin’s LandingThree burglaries of homes – two of which required no forced entry – theft from mailboxes, theft from vehicles and one armed robbery all occurred within the last week in Martin’s Landing. The armed robbery was a strange and frightening one in that the armed robbers were very accommodating of the family they attempted to steal from. On the night of August 6, two masked black men, one of whom was armed, broke into the house and assaulted the son of the family while he was sleeping, pointing the gun at him and asking where the safe was. Told that there was no safe, the suspects bound the man’s hands and feet and went into the other room, where the mother and her daughter slept. Waking the young daughter by placing a hand over her mouth and shaking her while holding her down, the suspects told her that they would not harm her. The gun was pointed at her while they said this. Binding her hands, feet and mouth with duct tape, they approached the mother demanding money. She did not have a shirt on at the time, and was told by the suspects that they would turn around while she clothed herself, out of respect. They then took her out of the room. Bringing her back 10 minutes later, they tied her up and left the house. They got away with wallets, purses, iPods, cell phones, and computers. The family was able to untie themselves and flee to a neighbor’s house to call the police. DUI Virginia F.
